It is slightly morbid here at the moment. As I look out the window there are a number of small boats and a helicopter searching the water for a missing diver.
It seems that on Monday two boys went out diving in the really rough weather and got into trouble. One has been rescued but the other is missing, so they are searching for his body.
Is sad and weird - you read (and hear) about these searches but to see one so close is not good. Is all rather sad and pathetic in a way - no 'big' search and rescue, and it is so close to the marina that it seems unbelievable that they got into trouble in the first place.
I am exhausted. My mother in law has just spent a week with us. Not only did she bring over a cough and cold for me, but she has kept me awake every night with her snoring, coughing and talking to herself.
Add to that the fact that she is constantly talking to herself during the day, or starting conversations with you from another room and it meant getting much needed siesta was out of the question.
She isn't ill - just one of life's self appointed victims that requires a LOT of attention, and is incapable of saying anything positive or having fun.
Seriously it feels like a huge cloud has lifted now that she has gone - even Moreno seems happy. He hasn't left me at all this morning as we have cleaned the apartment whilst Sands took her mum to the airport.
Anyway the good news is that I managed to finish Rough Music:
It was OK, if you want to read about gay, dysfunctional family and alzheimers!
Over the last 4 weeks I have intentionally relaxed the diet and exercise regime. Partly I needed to give my body a break, but also I wanted to see what happened to my weight with a more 'normal' month of eating, socialising and exercise. The good news is that it remained the same.
I am just slightly above what they say is a good weight for my height, but looking at things realistically I am probably still 14 lbs away from what I think is an achievable body shape.
So that is the focus - pick up the exercise, cut back on the food and at the same time I really need to ramp up the exercises I need to do to keep my neck, shoulder, back and knee in working order.
I had a good weekend - cleared down a lot of blog and internet stuff, and have really cut back on the amount of sites etc that I either maintain or participate in. I have a couple of things left to do this week and then I think I will be in really good shape.
It is already 11.30 am on Saturday morning and my plans are running behind! Why? One word - Moreno. How can something so small dominate my life!?
I have spent all morning one handed on the keyboard responding to emails, blogging and uploading pictures because he decided to fall asleep on my knee/arm. oth my arml left leg and left buttock are numb! Still he is sound asleep and looking really content.
By now I wanted to have at least got out of my PJ's, and should really have tidied away all the tools from the weeks cabling work. I also needed to put the Fat Boy on charge and paint the balcony rail.
There are a couple or rugby games I might watch on TV lunch time and this afternoon and early evening (6.30pm) I want to watch Man Utd in the FA Cup. I may also meet a friend for a quick beer as he hopes to pick up some nuts and bolts I need for a small job I need to do. Oh, and I need to record my segment for the weekly podcast I contribute to.
So a busy afternoon, which is why I needed to get stuff done this morning.
This evening is the BIG soccer match here in Spain, Barcelona v Real Madrid. KO 10pm so will go down to Al-rruz and watch it with friends, then probably have a very late dinner and go out for some drinks!!
Sunday I want to read the papers, have a bacon sandwich, and watch the England rugby match. If the nuts and bolts arrive I will do the 2 windows that need fixing.
Of course - I could still be sat here on Sunday if Moreno doesn't wake up!!!!!
BTW - I shaved my berad and trimmed my hair (No. 2) on Wednesday night at 11pm, for no reason at all!!!
Time is going quickly this year!!! Especially considering I am not even doing anything!
Anyway spent the day backing up all the computers, tidying up the new Flickr Pro account and generally thinking about the rest of the year.
Moreno continues to be a total joy - into everything he can get his paws on, including the RockDoves if he could as they are now coming down to the front balcony to eat - well 3 or 4 of them are. The plan to feed them less on the roof is working really well, although Pedro & Camilla are now sharing the rear balcony nest with a few of their 'friends":
So far I have lost 16 lbs this year, which still leaves me with 4 lbs to go before I reach the top of the 'green zone' for a healthy weight for my height. I think in reality I have to get a few lbs below that before I stop though, as I am bound to creep back up as soon as I hit the booze and tapas again, so I am thinking maybe another 8-10 lbs in March? Will be tough BUT at least it delays having to make a decision about the beard!! I now have what you could officially call a beard - in fact in the post office earlier I swear I got a nod of acceptance from a guy with a really good beard. Maybe there is some signal I should learn a la the biker bro wave? Anyway I sort of need to think about the beard situation, but that involves thinking about the hair - which I can't get my mind around right now - so all in all seems like another month of hibernation, get rid of the weight, give the beard and the hair another month, finish the consultancy gig, sort out the apartment roof and network is going to be the plan.
Has been a while, but what can I say? Nothing is happening:
- am running
- am eating as little as possible
- not drinking or socialising
- fixing neighbours PC's :-(
- blogging and reviewing like a nutter
- twittering like an idiot
- writing up the consultancy work.
Add to that the power problems (solved) the iPhoto libray blip (having to rename and tetag 3000+ pictures), the switch to Flickr PRO, and the trunking prior to intalling etherent throughout the apartment it has been pretty busy and dull.
Haven't watched a movie or read a book for ages!!
Anyway so far I have lost 15 lbs this month, and still haven't shaved. Friends got back from 2 month trip today so may meet up with them for a drink tomorrow night and have a break for one night!!!
Will let you know
Don't seem to have posted much recently. Partly because not much happening and partly because I have picked up a sore throat so am doing even less than normal!
I have just spent a couple of days importing and tagging 3225 photos into iPhoto - which is really not that exciting. I needed to get it done though before I embark on some more serious photography with the Nikon.
I haven't ben able to do anything with the microphone or mixer as my voice is pretty croaky. I have been playing around with converting some movies recorded from TV onto PC into QuickTime - which takes an absolute age to do at any reasonable quality.
I did celebrate an anniverasry recently. On the 7th of February it was exactly a year since I got back from the US on what was my 46th flight in 12 months and vowed not to travel anywhere for at least a year. 365 nights under my own roof. Not a plane, train, boat, bike or road trip at all. It has been brilliant. No sooner has it ended though and it looks like I will be going to Frankfurt or Paris or Washington or India at the beginning of March. At the moment Frankfurt or Paris are the most probable as it is only for one meeting. Washington would make more sense as that is where the company is based and I could get more done. India would be the most interesting.
Apart from that - have lost a total of 12.5lbs so far this year, still haven't had a shave, and aprt from the sore throat am feeling pretty good.
It has been a while since I posted something. I have actually been pretty busy, which is a little strange for me. Needless to say that a lot if it has been created by Moreno!
For some reason today he decided that my running socks (clean I will add) must have been a mouse. He picked them up in his mouth and ran around with them for at least 30 minutes. He kept jumping in and out his box, and trying to find a place to settle down and eat them. He is mad, but very very funny.
One of the reasons that I have been so busy though is that the other day he found out that he could now jump/climb onto the top of the units in our kitchen:
This isn't a problem on the units above the sink as they are flush to the wall, but the other side (1st picture) have the fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave built in so (as we found out!) there is actually a gap running down the back of the units or varying width. Moreno found it! Don't think he was stuck as such, but he didn't seem able to get out so step ladders, a very tight squeeze, and one startled looking cat later I had pulled him back up. Of course he waited until 11pm to do all this. To stop him going back down we tried to keep him out of the kitchen and put some wooden trays across the top of the units weighted down with a very heavy baking tray. CRASH - he managed to get in and now the baking tray is stuck behind the units! He was OK, but a little startled. Anway we have now put some wood across the top and covered the gaps, so he has a new place to play. He can get down on hos own from the side bby the sink (2nd picture) but seems to need help from the other side.
Sands has had me putting up some window blinds (7 in total) and a neighbour has just bought one as well so I haven't finished that chore yet!
As for January, it was really quiet and very healthy. Lost 9lbs and my running is getting better - and I still haven't shaved! No reason. Strangely enough it isn't itching or bohering me like it has before so am just seeing what happens. Is kinda strange to have a beard that I can comb!!!!
I think that about brings me back up to speed :-)
Actually it doesn't! As you know I love 24 and I love gadgets so this site made me smile.
